♡ Inspiring Designers: Luella Bartley

♡ There has been something i always wanted to do about blogging. I wanted to write and share about designers that i like, those who are inspiring to me.
So here we go........

I first noticed Luella Bartley back in 2010, the spring collection she did with the famous heart cut out dress that is still in trend today in 2012.
It was very much inspired from the 1960s look, its cute and elegant at the same time.
And i remember how obsessive i was with the polka dots pattern (maybe i should make another post about this later ^^)

But it's sad to see the brand was forced to close as one of their main suppliers closed.
However, i was very lucky as Luella opened a store in Bicester Village until the closure last year (if i remember well) , so i managed to get 3 pieces from her collection. I loved the quality of the knit wear, and they were sold at a very decent price as they won't have new stocks anymore.

I loved reading her book, 'Luella's Guide to English Style', one of the quotes i loved was "Being English is not about being obvious or sexy-it's about interesting and illogically brilliant.

Indeed, English girls always had their own minds of what to wear today.

And of course, i love the part where she wrote about Dr.Martens boots.

Here are some of the designs that i found interesting from her past collections:

SS 2009

Fall 2008
Gotta love the Gothique style

Shoes from Spring 2010

I feel a bit regretful for not getting one of the dresses or skirts that were left in the store.
Well lucky thing is, Luella's clothes are still floating around eBay and some 2nd hand fashion bidding webs.

One of the best thing for me would be to own a pink gisele bag.....

♡ Teddy Shoes

♡ Got really obsessed with playing Instagram recently, almost forgot to keep blogging every week!
I am so happy with the new progress of La Petite Fille, hope it will be more popular later on ^^
Still working on making the website, i want it to have something really exciting to show everyone.

Just bought a cute skirt last week (if you're my FB friend you know where i got it from XD)
Simply adore the print work on it~ So fantasy and girly.
Wish i could do a print like this for LPF too, wondering if i could get some crazy "Alice"-ish ideas by reading fairytale from Viktor & Rolf. <- been a bit lazy on reading, too much coursework ahead T^T

I miss my TUK teddy bear mary jane shoes, they haven't been worn much. Love them but never thought they turn out to be matching so well with ordinary outfits!
Really got bored from wearing creepers around (I am the girl whos like....if i see something wearing by everyone, i will stop wearing it just because i like to be different.)

♡ Petit Ange Tulle Dress

♡ Heres the new sheer dress for La Petite Fille! I am very proud and exciting to launch the pre-order this coming weekend at my store:
but first, I want to share with you the designs behind this dress!

When I first started to think of a new design of sheer dress, i wanted it to be cute and casual but also be able to match with the lolita dresses, sounds complicated doesn't it?
I liked the organza sheer dress i made in the summer :
Its cute and cool for the cult party kei and fairy kei coords, but i want to make something that can match with more coords. Plus organza design only looks good with the short sleeve, so practically limited for summer.

Anyway, i started to look online and see what i can find, and then i came across with the Sretsis Ayanna Cropped Blouse, it amazed me, its so delicate and fashionable. you can take a look here :
but for £160 for a cropped tulle top....i don't think i will ever pay that much.
However it gave me the idea of using tulle. It's pretty.

And i wanted is a dress, not just a top.

So here comes the initial design:

I started off as a robe, if you are into cult party kei you'll know why XD
but then, matching a robe with lolita will look weird, so maybe a dress form will be better:

And heres the final design:

Just a sudden thought for the wings print on the back, thought it would be nice to have something instead of just blank white.
This dress has no fastenings, i was going to add a placket at the front but it won't be much help, and will take more time to do so. And a invisible zip on tulle just never looks nice.

I am really happy with the final finished sample, at least better than what i have drawn:

There are a few changes on it though, the cuffs were too wide so i need to take 2 cm off on the orders, and need to make another sample. Also need to make them 1 or 2 cm longer.
I managed to top stitch both sleeve seams so they won't show up, which is great.
But sewing on the tiny ribbons on were such a boring job.....but they makes it beautiful.
Need to take more photos on this weekend too~ Hopefully the sale will go well.

♡As for the price.....always a headache for me.
I remember there was a lovely girl on tumblr kindly asked me how i determine my prices for these clothes. Its a simple business format, Costs + Time. Buying materials in uk is mostly twice the price of what you get in USA, if i live in the US i will be selling these for the half of the prices, but sadly i m not.
Take the gisele dress for example, i used duchess satin and chiffon which is better quality than those replica dresses you get from camden town for £50.
I really hope everyone could understand that these pieces are all handmade, from buying fabrics until they are made, all made from scratch, its not an easy job but i enjoy doing it because i feel so happy when i see someone else appreciate my works and wear it out.

♡ New Pink Coat

♡ Just a little show off for my new pinky coat for this winter!
I have been looking for a pinky coat for a long time and finally got it~
This coat is actually from Asda George (unbelievable, i know XD)
Apparently they have these featuring brands, this is from G21, which i think its designed for younger ladies. Anyway, its cute, and its not something you will see everyone wearing on the street.

The hood can be taken off too!
